Compare crypto exchange spot fees and AUSTRAC registration
This page compares cryptocurrency exchange products using dated fee schedules and AUSTRAC register lookups, rather than conducting new assessments. It examines how fees are structured across different products and account tiers, notes where cost information is publicly available, and helps Australian readers think through what to check before choosing an exchange.

Exchanges by AUSTRAC registration and spot fee
Exchanges with a current AUSTRAC registration on record are listed first. Within each group, exchanges are ordered by the lowest documented spot trading fee on the schedules we checked on 30 September 2026, 9 October 2026 and 14 October 2026; exchanges without a documented fee follow, alphabetically. The order compares one fee, not overall quality.
Lowest documented base-tier spot fee among exchanges with a current AUSTRAC registration on record, on the schedules checked 30 September 2026: Binance, Bitget, CoinSpot, Gate.io, KuCoin and Pepperstone Crypto (0.1%).

How to compare exchange costs
Start by matching the exact product and account tier you would actually use, because fees differ between them. Product type, the legal entity behind the service and your own location all affect which charges apply. A single headline fee cannot establish the lowest total cost, since total costs depend on the product, transaction size, spreads, trade commissions, funding method and conversion, and the withdrawal network used.
CoinSpot's fee schedule separates Markets trading from Instant Buy/Sell/Swap, and also sets out funding charges and wallet network fees. Kraken's Australian fee schedule separates Pro spot tiers from Instant Buy, noting that Instant Buy pricing includes a spread and that additional payment fees may apply.
Some public rates sit behind account login, some providers apply differing geographic rates, and public sources sometimes conflict. Where this page says something is not confirmed, it means the exact rate was unverified, not that it is free. Reviewing the full order preview and checking network fees before transacting is practical, without assuming any provider is universally the cheapest.
How to read these fee rates
Spot rates sit apart from margin, CFD and derivatives costs, funding charges and withdrawal fees. Check the product, tier and country behind any figure. A recorded fee does not establish eligibility or safety.
Maker and taker rates
Maker and taker describe how an executed order meets the order book, not your trade direction. Kraken's maker and taker explanation sets out its Pro order-book rules: an order not matched immediately against an opposing order on the book earns maker treatment, and one matched at once against an existing order earns taker treatment. A limit order can execute immediately and incur the taker rate, so not every limit order is maker, and fills are never guaranteed.
A rate applies to each trade, so a round trip is charged on both sides. Kraken's Australian fee schedule normally charges a percentage of quote-currency volume. The hypothetical two-sided spot trade record shows the arithmetic, and the cash and crypto funding checks sit apart from trade fees.
Product-specific flat fees
The flat-rate record covers CoinSpot Markets alone. CoinSpot's fee page lists separate trading categories for Markets and for Instant Buy, Sell and Swap, so a Markets rate does not apply to the Instant service.
Kraken Instant Buy/Sell sits apart from Pro spot: its pricing includes a spread, payment fees can also apply, and the Pro maker and taker rates do not describe it, so a quoted price is not automatically all-inclusive. Kraken's request-for-quote services can instead present an all-inclusive quote, but that does not transfer to other exchanges.

How this is measured
Google Ads reports how many times a month people in Australia searched each crypto exchange's brand terms, and the crypto exchanges are ranked on that figure alone.
A term counts for a crypto exchange only when that crypto exchange's own website holds the first organic Google result for it in Australia; bare brand words that any company could own are left out.
A month-on-month change prints only where the previous month reached 1,000 searches, because Google rounds smaller volumes.
The figures refresh on the 15th of each month with the newest month Google has published, and the first-result check repeats every quarter.
Crypto exchange comparison questions
Why are some rates marked as unknown?
Some public rates are unavailable behind account login, some providers charge differing geographic rates, and public sources can conflict. "Not confirmed" means the exact rate was unverified, not that the service is free or that the fee does not exist.
Do low fees mean an exchange is safe?
Low fees are not proof of safety. As Moneysmart explains, crypto asset values are volatile, and provider failure or hacking can cause loss of custodied funds, with protection depending on applicable laws.
Does appearing on this page mean an exchange is available to Australians?
No. Appearing in a comparison does not establish Australian eligibility. Product, account tier, legal entity and location all matter, and eligibility can change, so confirm directly with the provider before relying on any service.
How should I compare a shortlist?
Compare the exact product and tier you would use, and total costs including spreads, commissions, funding and withdrawal fees. See our exchange comparison, guide to opening a crypto account and how we research.
